Ambitious Green Plans
The Swedish government has just announced ambitious plans to go green: renewable energy for 50% of all national needs by 2020, carbon neutral by 2050, and every vehicle running on non-fossil fuels by 2030. To achieve these goals, the government will double its budget for energy efficiency by 2014 and approve new nuclear power plants.

If implemented as planned, Sweden could become one of the first truly green nations. The vehicle goals will give Saab and Volvo, if they survive intact, an opportunity to develop green cars. Green building design and construction industries will benefit from national funding, so keep an eye on how the government breaks out its budget for green tech.
